In this year’s election the ballot has several amendments to the constitution, some rule changes and some life changing issues. It is importantly at that you read each article and determine for yourself how you should vote. Many voters simply Christmas tree the last few pages since they did not do their research. That is the worst thing that anyone can do since their vote is improtant and they need to do their homework.

In the table to the right and the subsequent explanation represents how I will be voting. It is my right and my decision to vote as I please. It is your right and decision of course to vote how you please. My thought is that if any of my answers to why I am voting a particular way causes you to think about how you are voting, then I have done my duty as a citizen of this country to spark a debate within you.

Remember, I am not in anyway telling you to vote a certain way. Only how I am voting and why.

 Details

No. 1 Constitutional Amendment Article IX, Section 4 and Article XII N. Partisan Election of Members of District School Boards

VOTE NO –  We should discourage politics from our children’s education.

No. 2 Constitutional Amendment Article I, Section 28 Right to Fish and Hunt Proposing an amendment to the State Constitution to preserve forever fishing and hunting,

NO – We already have the right to bear arms and look at where that has gotten us ? I don’t like ” Including Traditional Methods ” without specifying.  Nothing wrong with the orginal law.  I also don’t like when someone puts ‘ forever ‘ in a law.

No. 3 Constitutional Amendment Article X, Section 29 N.º 3 Adult Personal Use of Marijuana Allows adults 21 years or older to possess, purchase, or use marijuana

YES – It’s time we moved into the 20th century ( let alone the 21st).  Medical Marijuana cards are a joke.  Time we took Marijuana out of the hands of the drug trafficers and into the pharmacies. Besides , the state could use the money from the taxes and we can stop arresting people for possession of marijuana.

No. 4 Constitutional Amendment Article I, New Section:  Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion

YES – Time to take this law out of the hands of religious organizations and into the hands of Woman who deserve the right to determine what happens to their own bodies. We should always encourage pro-life but we should not be giving the government powers they do not know how to handle or abuse based on their own religion.  It sort of violates the separation of Church and State.

No. 5 Constitutional Amendment Article VII, Section 6 Annual Adjustments to the Value of Certain Homestead Exemptions

YES – This is a good thing.  When housing values go up , the homestead exemption should go up too.  Even with this amendment, there is no way that Homestead Exception will ever catchup.

No. 6 Constitutional Amendment Article VI, Section 7  Repeal of Public Campaign Financing Requirement

NO – Nothing wrong with the orginal.  We are spending too much on elections and people with money have too much influence.  The orginal law should be applied to ALL campaigns in Florida.  ( good luck)

Referendum 1 Membership of Broward County Housing Council

NO – This gives the Commissioners more power to appoint their friends.

Referendum 2 Expansion of the Broward County Inspector General’s Authority

YES

Question 1  Coral Springs,  REMOVAL OR REPLACEMENT OF OBSOLETE, SUPERSEDED PROVISIONS,

YES – Of course.

Question 2 Coral Springs, FORFEITURE OF OFFICE/DISCIPLINE

 YES

Question 3 Coral Springs, LIFETIME SERVICE LIMITS ON THE CITY COMMISSION AND TERMS OF OFFICE FOR THE MAYO

OBSTAIN : This really does not matter. The limit should be 8 years period. Now they want to entrench 16 years.  that is a lifetime, and this prevents other people from seeking office.   We do not elect kings. Vote the way you want since they no doubt will come back with a provision next time that elects them for life. If everyone obtains, then they can’t do anything .

Question 4 Coral Springs,COMPENSATION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMISSIONERS  the Mayor and City Commissioners will be compensated annually based on the average salaries less two percent of the Mayor and Commissioners of the cities of Margate, Tamarac, Pompano Beach, and Coconut Creek

NO – We are in charge of our own funds and what we should pay our city commissioners.  We should not rely upon other cities. Why not pay them like Canadian Cities in Canadian Dollars ? Pesos? This isn’t supposed to be a full time job.

Question 5 Coral Springs,  PROCEDURE FOR QUALIFYING FOR OFFICE BY PETITION

candidate may obtain 5% of the registered voters signatures or pay a few

NO – No reason to change this. NO ONE EVER GETS 5% of the VOTE.  PAY THE FEE. THE CITY CAN USE THE MONEY.
