New Acting Chief Named

After more than 28 years on the force, including 15 years as chief, Coral Springs Police Chief Roy Arigo has announced his retirement. Deputy Chief Duncan Foster has been named as Acting Police Chief, effective January 14, 2005. City Manager Mike Levinson will conduct a nationwide search before naming a permanent replacement.Levinson said, “Duncan Foster is an excellent choice to serve as our Acting Police Chief—he has been with the Coral Springs Police Department for nearly 18 years, working up through the ranks and holding every type of job assignment from motorcycle officer to command of all uniform and investigative operations as Deputy Chief. His professional leadership abilities are enhanced by a Master of Public Administration degree, graduation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy and his early career days as Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. I am pleased to have Duncan step into the position of Acting Police Chief and have every confidence he will continue to admirably serve our community.”

Chief Arigo leaves behind a legacy of outstanding accomplishments. Under his leadership, the department achieved national Accreditation status, and has become a model of national excellence. He said “I have been blessed to serve in a police department filled with members who are truly committed to serving the community in a professional and compassionate manner. Ithas beenmy goal to lead the Coral Springs Police Departmentwith integrity and compassion. I would hope that I am remembered for having reached this accomplishment. This is one of the most respected police agencies throughout the law enforcementcommunity and I can attribute this reputation to the quality of the members with whom I have had the opportunity to serve. It has been my pleasure to be associated with such a dedicated and professional group.” Chief Arigo also served as the 2002/2003 President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association.

His professionalism, leadership and integrity have enabled us to build a police department that is a national role model. I wish Roy and his wife Ellen all the best.”
