Frequently Asked Questions

WinAmp says that I am connected but I don't hear anything:

First make sure the timer that is located on the WinAmp screen  is counting up, and WinAmp is saying that it is connected.

1. Your Computer settings are wrong. Check the volume controls of your computer, (Usually found in the Start / Program / Accessories / Entertainment / Volume Control) . Since Winamp uses the Wave generator of your sound card, make sure that the Wave slider is up and that you have not muted it. Also CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SPEAKERS CONNECTED!

2. There is not a lot of traffic usually on holidays and after 11:00.  Sometimes 5 - 10 minutes could go by without a peep. Other times, the transmissions never stop.  If your WinAmp says connected, be patient.  Soon you will hear something.

3. Check the version of your WinAmp Software. It must be 2.71 or higher.  If you didn't use the icon on our page to download the WinAmp Player, please do so.  This will give you the latest version of the software.

Can I use RealAudio or Windows Media Player?

No. Currently both these programs do not support the MP3 audio streaming.

Is there any other program other than WinAmp that I can use?

Perhaps there is. If you have software that can read an MP3 audio stream then you might be able to connect to it.  Try it out.  The worst that can happen is that it will say something like stream not recognized. IF you can connect, email us and we will post the other programs in this site  However, since our source stream programming is by ShoutCast, the same people that make WinAmp, it is the preferred program

WinAmp indicates that it cannot connect. What is the problem?

1. WinAmp connects directly with our server through the internet, As a result, the connection must be made from your ISP through to our ISP to our machine. IF any of the connections along the way are not performing or are down, you would not be able to connect to us. Try again later as most of the time the connections will be restored.

2. Our server is down.  We normally do our best to maintain the server, but it does happen occasionally, especially when I am sleeping :>

What's that continuous aircraft noise that I hear sometimes?

Since we utilize a trunking scanner and the unit is constantly scanning all known Call ID's , sometimes it finds one that is used for data transmission.  When this happens, and we at the scanner,  we lock the Call ID out. This problem will be eliminated over time as we find all of the data id's.

Is this really live action I am hearing?

The broadcast is delayed no more than 30 seconds while the server routes the packet to your Winamp program. We call that live!
