Pedestrian Killed Crossing Roadway

June 3,2010 : A Coral Springs resident was killed late last night as he was attempting to cross University Drive.

James Patrick Welsh, 58, of Coral Springs died at the scene after a vehicle struck him as he was attempting to cross University Drive just north of Riverside Drive approximately 11:10pm last night.

Preliminary investigation shows that Welsh was walking east to west across University Drive when he was struck by a 2002 Kia driven by Suhaib Talib Al-Janabi, 23, of Plantation.  Al-Janabi was traveling north on University Drive in the left through when he struck Welsh.

Welsh was pronounced dead at the scene by the Coral Springs Fire Department. Al-Janabi was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is should contact Officer Eric Schuster of the Coral Springs Police Department Traffic Unit at 954-344-1800.
