Presidential Elections 2008:
Democrats Do Their Best to Lose

by Howard Melamed

January 9, 2008 Coral Springs:   I am having a problem with the current presidential primary elections concerning the slate of candidates that the Democratic Party has put foreword.  My only conclusion is that the Democrats always try their very very best to lose an election.

If you look back to the 2004 elections the Democrats decided that what the US population needed was John Kerry.  If you think about it, in a time where the incumbent President Bush's popularity was at an all time low, Kerry was overwhelmingly defeated.  To some Democrats, it wasn't the candidate, but rather a conspiracy that allowed the Republicans to 'stuff the ballots'.  They used this excuse because no one wants to face the facts and say ' we made a mistake with Kerry as the candidate'.  Kerry was a great debater, winning every TV debate against Bush. Kerry was  the smarter of the two.  Kerry had the Hollywood actors behind him.  Kerry embraced Michael Moore.  Bottom line, Kerry was impossible to elect.  He was too left wing too liberal. He did not know how to play the middle, as Bill Clinton did, to win over the undecided.  Kerry lost, because the democrats do their best to make sure that they lose.....by not following the tried and tested formula developed by President Bill Clinton.

Now we have the same thing going on.  Of course many will criticize me on this, saying I must be biased, or I don't know what I am talking about.  I can bet anyone of them that if one of the current three top Democratic candidates is chosen, the Dems will lose....again.

Hillary Clinton:   The only qualification that Hillary has is that she was in the White House and by osmosis, she gained the knowledge through her husband Bill, of what a President should do.  There are many problems with this way of thinking. First, sleeping with the president is different that being a president. The only 'presidential' act that she tried to do was reform healthcare, which she failed at miserably.  She is a Senator, and no senator has been elected since JFK.  Americans like governors. That is because a Governor at least knows how to manage government.  As well, as much as we would like to think that the American voter is 'hip' to the times, I do not think that a woman is going to be electable. Oh yes...we live in a different time, but do you  really believe that these different times have no bigotry or condescending attitudes towards woman? In the end, the Republicans will crucify her and Bill will only be able to help in the process.

Barack Hussein Obama :  Are Americans willing to elect a President whose middle name is 'Hussein'? How about if Americans will let serve as commander and chief someone who never served in any of the Armed Forces, or National Guard or even the Coast Guard? Then there is the problem that Obama is still a child in politics compared to anyone else that has ever ran for  office with the exception of Ross Perot and Pat Pulsen. He hasn't even served a full 6 years as senator. Is he that vain to think that he has enough experience to handle being President? The world has seen its share of orators, including the bad ones.  Being able to make a great speech is different than being presidential material.  Kerry was a great speaker as well.  Bush wasn't . Bush won. Democrats lost. Finally, there are still a large population of people that would vote against Obama just because he is a man of color...again, if you think 'times are a changin' then you obviously never listen to Imus in the morning.  The trouble is, for a Presidential Candidate you need to be able to remove all of the negatives. In this case the negatives are the bigots in the United States that will never go away.

John Edwards:  You got to be kidding.  North Carolina Slip and Fall attorney. Not gonna happen. HE is also a Senator, lost the bid with Kerry.  He is un-electable.

As well, take a look at the attention that the press is giving to two primaries that mean absolutely nothing.  Iowa? 2.9 million people.  There are people in Broward County.  New Hampshire? 1.9 Million people. Less than Fort Lauderdale.  These two states are a representative of the United States popular opinion as Coral Springs to Florida.   The candidates that win in these two states are doing so for one purpose only: To be a big fish in a small bowl.

As we look into the future, we need to ask the leadership of the Democratic party, "Is this the best you could do?  A wife, a kid , and a shark?  If ever the Democrats need Al Gore to come back it is now!
