Coral Springs Police Explorers Post Takes Top Honors in State Competition

The Coral Springs Police Explorers won first place overall at the 2006 Florida State Competition hosted by the Florida Association of Police Explorers in Venice, Florida.  The statewide competition was held between June 10 and June 17 and consisted of over 500 police explorers from 40 law enforcement agencies across Florida.

The Coral Springs Police Explorers competed in scenario-based events with the following results:

  • First Place:

o   Crisis Intervention

o   First Responder

o   Crime Scene Processing

  • Second Place – Search and Arrest
  • Fifth Place – Traffic Stop Investigation
  • Fifth Place- Child Abuse/ Response to Drug Lab Investigation

Other events that the police explorers participated in included:

  • Traffic Crash/Roll Over
  • In-Progress Robbery Call
  • Pistol Match
  • Color Guard
  • Bike Course

The Coral Springs Police Explorers competing were Chad Alpert, Sara Kessler, Desiree Ferreria, Phil Wolf, Mike O’Brien, Dan Shaw, Juan Torres, John Hankins, Dakota Dussault, Katie Murray, Frank Weber, and Simeon Gutzmer.  Police Advisor Officer Robert Katz, who was assisted by Officer Vincent Bonasera and Assistant Police Advisor Ronnie Kessler, led the Police Explorers.
