Coral Springs Citizens Respond to NY Firefighters and Police killed in Action

So Far...$80,000 raised

Kid's Spirit Drives Support. Coral Springs Citizens Respond

2nd draft 09/25/01

I am certain that each and everyone of the citizens in Coral Springs is upset at what happened in New York. There is little that we can do  except to support our government and donate funds to the organizations that help out the victims of this tremendous tragedy.

Some of our great Coral Springs kids decided to raise money in support of the New York Firefighters. They set up a lemonade stand where they sold lemonade to people passing by. It was a great success in both the amount of money that they collected, and the amount of influence this good deed had on them.  Look at the smiles on these kids and you know that America will be in their good hands in the future! Shown in the picture on the right are: Kais Dewani- age 6 ,Nicholis Guertin- 6,Billie Guertin- 8 ,Spencer Streit- 8 ,Bryanna Streit- 9,Maranda Streit- 10,Emily Bolinsky- 8.  Over $100 was collected by the kids.  Good for them!

Other children around town have also emulated the 'Coral Springs Gang' and also set up lemonade stands over the weekend. One gang made a "Lemonade for New York" stand. The Christian school at 201 University collected money by selling "Apples for the Big Apple".

Debbie Burgess, A Coral Springs Resident, organized a collection site at 10400 W. Atlantic Blvd. Debbie was able to get Sunny 104.3 and the Fire Department involved to help. They collected items to help in the relief effort including rubber boots, hard hats, teddy bears, socks, tooth past, tooth brushes, eye wash, medications for cuts, toiletries. (Many thanks to Don Petito of the Coral Springs Fire Department for the information)

So far, the Coral Springs Fire Department has collected over $80,000 for the NY Fire Fighters.

The energy from our community is expected to grow. No one has stopped helping and from the looks of it, it will continue long into the future. Just think. With every penny raised by our children, and every Coral Springs Citizen doing their best to help out, the Terrorists loose and we win. They wanted to squash us and usurp our spirit. Instead, they have increased our dedication to freedom and this great country of ours. The terrorists worst nightmare is seeing us at our best! Let's keep up the work. If you see a Lemonade Stand, make sure you stop and buy a glass. It will be the best spiritually lifting lemonade you ever tasted.

If you have an event that you are running in support of the Fire Fighters and the Policeman killed in the disaster, let us know. We will publish it, Send the information to america@coralsprings.com

In support of the New York Fire Fighters

Coral Springs citizens wanting to donate money to help out the New York Firefighters killed in the terrorist attack can do so by visiting the  local Fire Stations.  All you have to do is drop by and speak to any fireman and let them know that you want to donate money. You can make out checks to the Fire Fighters Charities and they will collect it. People are turning out at the Fire Stations, at the Fire Department Headquarters, and at the Publix food stores where local Coral Springs firefighters are available.

In support of the New York Police

Checks should be made out to the Police Officer Assistance Trust. They can be dropped off or mailed to the Coral Springs Police Department located at 2801 Coral Springs Drive Coral Springs, FL 33065.

Coral Springs Fire and Police Department Offers Help

Like every Fire Department in the United States, the Coral Springs Fire and Police  Departments offered to send teams to New York to help with the rescue efforts.  They made this offer shortly after the disaster occurred.   New York has not taken them up on their offer as they have indicated that they have enough people so far.
